圣诞节假期后刚上班就收到了朋友的好消息朋友三个月前硕士毕业，一直在找工作。圣诞节前朋友收到面试通知，假期后第一天进行网络面试 (virtual interview)。昨天上午朋友信心满满地在电脑前面试，面试结束后给我打电话说感觉很好。没想到这么快，今天下午朋友就收到了conditional offer，面试的公司发邮件要求朋友尽快去做PRC。加拿大的办事效率很低的，从去当地警局申请PRC到拿到结果需要两到三周的时间 (不过，警局提供有加急服务rush service；加急服务当然要多付申请费了) 。那么，PRC指的是什么呢？
首先，可以肯定的是，此PRC非彼PRC (People’s Republic of China). 这个PRC是Police Reference Checkor Police Record Check的首字母缩略词，意思是无犯罪记录证明，俗称 “良民证”。在加拿大，很多单位在雇新员工或者招义工时要求提交无犯罪记录证明。
首字母缩略词的英语是acronym[ˈækrənɪm]，是组合每个词的首字母构成新词或是专有名词的形式。

This initialism comes from the French for “please reply.” It’s used on invitations to parties and events and is intended (as it says) to be responded to with a “yes, we will attend,” or “no, we will not.”
